Thompson, Jerry D.

A professor of history at Texas A & M International University, Jerry D. Thompson received his bachelor’s degree from Western New Mexico University in 1964, his master’s from the University of New Mexico in 1968, and his doctor of arts degree in history from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1982. Thompson researches and writes on the American Civil War as well as the history of Texas and the southwest. A prolific writer, he has authored numerous books and articles on historical subjects, including Warm Weather and Bad Whiskey: The 1886 Laredo Election Riot (1991), A Wild and Vivid Land: An Illustrated History of the South Texas Border (1997), and Civil War and Revolution on Rio Grande Frontier: A Narrative and Photographic History (2004).
