Steinfeld family.
Biographical note: In 1867, the Zeckendorf brothers opened a mercantile business in Tucson. Albert Steinfeld, their nephew, came to Tucson to work in the store. In 1904, Steinfeld purchased the Tucson firm from his uncle. Albert Steinfeld expanded his business and invested in many others over the years. The business concerns of the Steinfeld enterprises flourished into the 1930s and included a hardware and machinery store, and a grocery store. Albert Steinfeld died in 1935 and his son, Harold, took over the company. The department store business continued until their last store at El Con Mall closed in 1984.
