Lidz, Theodore

Thedore Lidz was born in 1910 and received his A.B. degree from Columbia in 1931, and his M.D. in 1936. From 1938 to 1951 he was associated with Johns Hopkins University as an instructor and associate professor of psychiatry (1940-1951), and as an assistant professor of medicine (1947-1951). He served as a professor of psychiatry at the Yale University Medical School from 1951 to his retirement in 1978. He died on February 16, 2001.

Ruth Wilmanns Lidz was born in Germany in 1910 and left in 1935, during Hitler's regime, to complete her medical studies at the University of Basel. After interning in Istanbul, she came to Johns Hopkins to work on insulin therapy for schizophrenia. There she met and married Theodore Lidz in 1939. She completed her psychoanalytic training at the Washington-Baltimore Psychoanalytic Institute in 1947. On moving to New Haven in 1951, she conducted a private practice and served as clinical professor at the Yale School of Medicine. She died on October 9, 1995.
