Darrow, George Potter, 1859-1943

George Potter Darrow was a United States Representative from Pennsylvania. Born in Waterford, Connecticut in 1859, he graduated from Alfred University in 1880. In 1888 he moved to Philadelphia, where he engaged in banking, paint manufacture, and the insurance business. He served as school board president for Philadelphia, 1906-1909 and was a member of the Philadelphia Common Council, 1910-1915, before election to the United States Congress. He was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-fourth and to the ten succeeding Congresses (1915-1937), lost the election in 1936, and then was reelected to the Seventy-sixth Congress (1939-1941). Darrow did not run for reelection in 1940, and passed away in 1943.
