International Student Conference

Established in 1950; Western counterpart of the communist orientated International Union of Students (IUS); organized congresses for its members, the National Unions of Students (NUSes); its Coordinating Secretariat of National Unions of Students (COSEC), established in Leiden, Holland, was specifically without policy powers; the ninth ISC in 1960 abandoned the s̀tudents-as-such' clause, making political statements of the ISC possible; supreme authority between conferences was now endorsed by a Supervisory Commission (SUPCOM); the Research and Information Commission (RIC) was to provide the NUSes with objective information; disbanded in 1969; periodicals: Information Bulletin and The Student.
