Obrien, Edna
Edna O'Brien, novelist, short story writer, playwright, and screenwriter, was born December 15, 1932, in Tuamgraney, County Clare, Ireland. Educated first at the local national school and then in a convent, she escaped rural life by attending Pharmaceutical College in Dublin. In 1952, she eloped with Czech-Irish author Ernest GeĢbler. They moved first to County Wicklow, and then to London, where O'Brien has remained. They divorced after twelve years of marriage, and she raised their two sons alone.
