Dow, Douglas, d. 1991.
Prominent Detroit citizen, scientist and inventor, Dow was called to Washington, D.C. by Lt. Gen. William S. Knudsen to spearhead rapid acquisition of trucks and jeeps for the U.S. Army. Lt. Col. Dow moved the truck procurement program further and faster than any other Army procurement program. He also served in China, Burma and the India theater as battalion commander and on the procurement staff. He died at age 90 on Jan. 14, 1991 in Harper Woods, Mich.
