Broughel, Barbara
This drawing is part of Barbara Broughel's Requiem series in which the artist used brooms and "other modest household objects of early American design" to portray people convicted of witchcraft and executed in seventeenth-century America. These symbolic portraits were based on contemporary court transcripts and represent some aspect of the individuals and/or their accusation. The Requiem series consists of preliminary sketches, 42 objects, and finished graphite drawings of each of the objects. The drawings were made after the completion of the objects.
