Nichols family.
A well-to-do Boston family whose female members were active in social and civic affairs, women's suffrage, and art. The collection centers on Dr. Arthur Howard Nichols (1840-1923), his wife Elizabeth Fisher Homer Nichols (1844-1929), and their three daughters: Rose Standish Nichols, (1872-1960), a landscape architect; Marian Clarke Nichols (1873-1953), active in civil service reform and other civic and philanthropic causes; and Margaret Homer Nichols Shurtleff (1879-1959). Also represented are members of the Keegan and Shurtleff families, especially Sarah Ann Keegan Shurtleff and Helen (Mrs. Ernest W.) Shurtleff.
