Hecules Incorporated.
On April 23, 1986, the Commision of the European Economic Community ruled that several firms, including S.A. Hercules Chemicals N.V., the Belgian subsidiary of Hercules Incorporated, had violated Article 85(1) of the Treaty of Rome by enganging in price fixing arrangments for the sale and marketing of polypropylene between 1977 and 1983. Hercules then appealed its $2.7 million fine to the EEC Court of Justice as unwarranted and excessive, but later abandoned the appeal and exited the polypropylene business.
