Clinton, John W. (John Waterbury), 1836-1918.
Newspaper editor & local historian from Polo, Ogle County, Illinois.
Born and raised in Andes, N.Y., Clinton moved to Polo in 1857 to teach school. Between 1865 and 1901, he was owner and editor of the Ogle County Press, which promoted prohibition and printed many articles about Ogle County's history. After retirement, Clinton collected and preserved biographies and genealogies of pioneer families for a proposed book.
