Western New Mexico University
The New Mexico Normal School at Silver City was established by a legislative act in 1893 (1893 Laws of N.M., Chp. 19, Sec. 1). In 1923 a legislative act changed the name to New Mexico State Teachers College at Silver City (1923 Laws of N.M., Chp. 22, Sec. 1). In 1959 a constitutional amendment changed the name to New Mexico Western College (1959 Laws of N.M., Constitutional Amendment No. 7). In 1963 a constitutional amendment changed the name to Western New Mexico University (1963 Laws of N.M., Constitutional Amendment No. 3).
