Women's Air Service Pilots.
The Women's Air Force Service Pilots Corp. was established during World War II to fly non-combat military planes. The first W.A.S.P. class began training under Jacqueline Cochran at the Houston Municipal Airport in November, 1942. In February of 1943, the program was moved to Avenger Field at Sweetwater, Texas until the graduation of the last class in December, 1944.
