Francis W. Spencer and Roy Webster Vorhees Associated Architects.
Roy Webster Vorhees was born in Seneca, Kansas, on January 17, 1890. He was educated at the University of Nebraska (1908-1909) and then worked in construction with his brothers and his father, a contractor. From 1919-1921 he was a construction superintendent for the architectural firm of Rapp, Rapp and Hendrickson. Following Hendrickson’s death, Vorhees formed a partnership with Francis W. Spencer, another former employee of the Rapp firm, who previously worked as an architect in New Mexico (1903-1907). In 1931, Vorhees received New Mexico architectural license number 9 and Spencer received license number 10. The decade-long partnership originated in Trinidad, then moved to Roswell, New Mexico (1935-1939). The Spencer Vorhees firm established a reputation for their educational buildings in Colorado and New Mexico. Vorhees was a director of the NM Chapter of the AIA and President of the NM Board of Examiners of Architects (1951-1953). Vorhees died October 31, 1958.
