Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. National Capital Presbyterian Commission.

In 1925, after prompting from the Presbytery of Washington City, the General Council founded a commission to found "a National Church in our Federal Capital," and appointed Rev. George B. Stewart (1854-1932) as its Chairman. In 1930 it contracted with the newly merged Covenant-First Presbyterian Church (Washington, D.C.) to become the National Presbyterian Church, pursuant to the fulfillment of certain legal and financial terms. These being fulfilled in May 1947, the National Presbyterian Church was established, and the National Capital Presbyterian Commission was discharged.
