Gray, A. B. (Andrew Belcher), 1820-1862

Biographical note: A.B. Gray was appointed surveyor to mark the boundary between the United States and Mexico after the Mexican War. He was later recalled over a dispute with John R. Bartlett, the U.S. Boundary Commissioner. Five years later he surveyed the 32nd parallel in search of a suitable railroad route for the Texas and Western Railroad. He served as a captain in the Confederate Army during the Civil War and was killed by an accidental gunshot wound in 1862.
