Born in 1926 in Brussels, Belgium, Andrée M. Collard came to the United States in 1950 on a Marshall Plan scholarship. She received her B.A. (Mexico City College, 1951) and M.A. in Romance literature (Universidad Nacional de México, 1955). A founding member of the Boston chapter of the National Organization for Women (she served as treasurer in 1969), AMC chaired the faculty committee to investigate the status of women at Brandeis. She was also director of a Carnegie-funded project to set up an office at Brandeis for undergraduate women to explore career options (1974-1975).
