Hapgood family.
Hutchins Hapgood, journalist and author, was born on May 21, 1869 in Chicago. Initially a muckraking journalist, he later devoted his time to novels. His major works include The Spirit of the Ghetto (1902). The Story of a Lover (1919), and his autobiography, A Victorian in the Modern World (1933). Hapgood died in Provincetown, Massacusetts, on November 19, 1944.
Neith Boyce Hapgood, author, was born on March 21, 1872 in Franklin, Indiana. She worked as a journalist but later devoted her time to writing novels, essays, and short stories. While working as Lincoln Steffens's assistant, she met and married Hutchins Hapgood. Her major works include The Bond (1908), Proud Lady (1923), and Harry: A Portrait (1923). She died in Richmond, New Hampshire, on December 2, 1951.
