Louisville, Cincinnati & Charleston Rail-Road Company. Engineering Dept.

By an act of the S.C. General Assembly, 19 Dec. 1835, the Cincinnati & Charleston Railroad Company was incorporated with power to construct a railroad from Charleston, S.C., to Cincinnati, Ohio. Subsequently, 21 Dec. 1836, the name of that company was changed to Louisville, Cincinnati & Charleston Railroad Company. By a later act, 19 Dec. 1843, the name of the latter company was changed to that of the South Carolina Railroad Company, which acquired, subject to certain conditions, the rights, privileges, and property of the South Carolina Canal & Railroad Company, incorporated 19 Dec. 1827.
