Lott, Charles Fayette, 1824-1918.
Born in 1824 in Pemberton, New Jersey, author's family later moved to Quincy, Illinois. Studied law, graduating in 1846. In 1849 joined the rush to California. In California, spent an initial period in mine fields before eventually settling in Oroville. Served as Senator from Butte County, practiced law and in 1869 was elected Judge of the Second Judicial District.
