Myers, Samuel L. (Samuel Leslie), 1905-1987.
Graduated from West Point (1928); became 2nd Lieutenant in Cavalry and served at various posts in Tex., Kan. and the Philippines (1928-1937). Became Captain and commanded 67th Q.M. Battalion Light Maintenance unit; appointed Lt. Col. and G-4 assistant of I Coprs in 1942. Participated in Tunisia and Sicily campaigns during World War II. As Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations worked on planning of Normandy campaign. Sent to Philippines (1945) with 1st Army; assigned to 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Meade (1949-1950) and as Colonel became Chief of Staff, III Corps (1951-1952) and later transferred to staff of U.S. Naval Forces Eastern Atlantic and Mediterrean (1953-1954).
Promoted to Brigadier General (1954) and commanded Armored Replacement Training Center at Ft. Knox. Sent to Vietnam to work with MACV in the training of South Vietnamese armed forces (1956-1957). Promoted to Major General and became Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics (Programs and Budget) (1959). As Lt. General was general of I Corps and Deputy Commanding General, 8th U.S. Army, Korea (1962-1964). Retired in 1965 and died in 1987.
