Kansas Wheat Commission
The Kansas Wheat Commission was established in 1957 when the Kansas Legislature approved the Kansas Wheat Act. The Kansas Wheat Commission is a farmer-funded agency promoting Kansas wheat through direct producer investments in plant breeding to improve wheat varietal yield, milling, & baking quality; increasing domestic consumption of wheat-based foods through educating consumers about the health benefits of eating more grain-based foods; and improving international utilization of Kansas-produced wheat through farmer-funded market development offices worldwide. The Kansas Wheat Commission was originally funded by a 2 mill (1/5 of a cent) levy on each bushel of wheat at the first point of purchase. In the fifty years since KWC's formation, the levy has been raised to 10 mills (1 cent) on each bushel. [Kansas Wheat.
