Daughters of the American Revolution, Western Reserve Chapter

The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Western Reserve Chapter (f. 1891) was formed in Cleveland, Ohio, by Catherine Hitchcock Tilden Avery (Mrs. Elroy M. Avery) who became interested in organizing a local chapter when she visited Washington, D.C., soon after the formation of the National Society in 1890. Membership is open to any woman over the age of eighteen who can prove direct descent from a person who aided the cause of the colonists during the American Revolution. In addition to promoting patriotism, the DAR sponsors scholarship programs, health care programs, and numerous other projects.
