Inman, Grant and Slaton Families.
The collection begins with letters and contracts of the Reid family of West Point, Georgia. The early years of the collection also include letters and contracts of the Grant family of Walton County, Georgia, and of the Van Dyke family of Athens, Tennessee. Sarah Francis (Sallie Fannie) Reid, daughter of William & Martha Thomas Wingfield Reid, married William Daniel Grant, son of John Thomas Grant & Martha Cobb Jackson, in 1866. The couple moved to Atlanta in 1870. They had two children: John William Grant and Sarah Francis (Sallie Fannie) grant. Sarah francis Grant married Thomas Cobb Jackson in 1889. Afther his death, she married John M. Slaton, a future governor of Georgia, in 1898. John William Grant married Annie Martin Inman, eldest daughter of Hugh Theodore Inman and Margaret Josephine (Jodie) Van Dyke, in 1893. The collection also includes the correspondences of the other two children of Hugh Theodore Inman and Margaret Josephine (Jodie) Van Dyke and their immediate families: Josephine (Josie) Van Dyke Inman, who married Hugh Richardson, and Edward Hamilton Inman, who married Emily MacDougald. The collection continues through the next generation scantily.
