The LeConte family of Georgia was known for being a family of scientists. The family was of Huguenot descent and originally settled in Pennsylvania, keeping their summer home in Philadelphia and spending their winters in Georgia. Louis LeConte was educated as a physician and moved to Georgia around 1810 to settle on the Woodmanston plantation in Liberty County, Georgia. Louis LeConte was married to Ann Quarterman LeConte and was the father of John and Joseph LeConte, both known internationally for their scientific knowledge and discoveries.
