Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic

The Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic (LGAR) is affiliated with the Grand Army of the Republic and its membership is limited to female blood relatives of honorably discharged Civil War servicemen. Members support the activities of the Grand Army of the Republic, including providing assistance to sick and needy veterans and participating in patriotic events. The Denver Circle No. 1 of the LGAR was formed in 1891, followed by the creation of the Colorado and Wyoming Department in 1894 . Kit Carson Circle No. 9 in Colorado Springs was formed in 1896 . In 1963 the Denver Circle joined the Kit Carson Circle, which closed in the late 1980s .
