Duane, William J. (William John), 1780-1865
Duane, son of William Duane (1760-1835), worked at the Aurora general advertiser in Philadelphia, practiced law (from 1815) and later served as U.S. Secretary of the Treasury (1833). He was removed from office for refusing to withdraw government deposits from United States Bank before a meeting of Congress.
