Civilian Conservation Corps (U.S.). New Mexico District.

The Emergency Conservation Work Program was established by the federal government in 1933 to provide unemployment relief and vocational education; its name changed to the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1937. The CCC operated 44 camps in New Mexico, under the jurisdiction of the New Mexico District headquartered in Ft. Bliss, Texas. Supervising agencies for the camps were the U.S. Forest Service, Grazing Service, Soil Conservation Service, National Park Service, and Bureau of Reclamation.
