Jones, F. Burton
Jones was raised in Albany, Texas and attended the University of Texas at Austin where he completed his doctoral thesis under the direction of R. L. Moore in 1935. He was a topologist who worked in continua and in abstract spaces and originated the famous normal Moore space problem. Jones' primary teaching posts were at the University of Texas at Austin, the University of North Carolina and the University of California at Riverside. During his career, he published over 40 mathematical papers.
