In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, Harvard College undergraduates often copied academic texts and lecture notes into personal notebooks in place of printed textbooks.
Nathaniel Eells (1677-1750), a Massachusetts minister, was born on November 26, 1677 in Milford, Conn. He received an AB from Harvard in 1699 and an AM in 1702. On June 14, 1704, Eells was ordained as the minister of the Second Church of Scituate, Mass (now the First Unitarian Church of Norwell) and served until his death on August 25, 1750.
