Garrett, Henry, 1818-1885

Henry Beresford Garrett was transported to Norfolk Island in the 1840s. After his release, he went to Victoria and was convicted for bank robbery in 1855. Sent to the hulks, he witnessed Price's murder. He went to New Zealand in 1861, where he wrote The demon while in prison.

John Giles Price was a civil commandant of Norfolk Island from Aug. 1846 until Jan. 1853. He was appointed inspector-general of penal establishments in Victoria in Jan. 1854, and was murdered by convicts from the Hobson's Bay prison hulks in Mar. 1857.
