Steamship Savannah Replica Commission (Savannah, Ga.)

The Savannah Steamship Replica Commission was organized in 1963 to develop plans for the construction of an authentic replica of the S.S. Savannah, the first steamship to ever cross the Atlantic Ocean in 1819, to be used as a stationary museum. When this endeavor failed, the commission then attempted to have the N.S. Savannah, the first nuclear powered cargo-passenger ship, as a stationary museum in Savannah.
