Woman's Club of Fargo (N.D.)

The Club was founded in 1884 and was the first woman's club in North Dakota. Literary study was the club's objective but later expanded to community projects, woman's suffrage, temperance, and world affairs. In 1899, the club initiated the Fargo Public Library movement; the club has maintained a seat on the library board since 1903. In 1890, the Woman's Club joined the General Federation of Women's Clubs, joining the N.D. State Federation in 1906. Again in 1966, the club began the drive for a new library building. Bella (Mrs. C.E.) Webster was the longest living member; she joined in 1893 and died in 1966.
