Henderson, Hubert, 1918-
Hubert P. Henderson directed the band program at the University of Maryland, College Park from 1955-1965. Under his leadership, the program underwent a series of significant changes, including its administrative shift from the Military Department to the School of Music and the formation of the Symphonic Band. Henderson was elected to the American Bandmasters' Association (ABA) in 1961 and resigned from the association in 1968 following his departure to the University of Kentucky. While an active member, he was integral to the establishment of the ABA Journal of band research and served as the first director of the ABA Research Center. He also helped to organize the 1965 ABA Conference, held in College Park.
