Alger, James D. (James Dyce), 1912-1986

James Dyce Alger (b. Mar. 25, 191-d. May 27. 1986), was a three-star general in the U.S. Army. Also known as "Gentleman Jim", he played a significant role in the Battle for Kasserine Pass (Tunisia) in 1943 as a Lieutenant Colonel in the 2nd Battalion, 1st Armored Regiment. In 1940, he married heiress Consuelo Zobel in Manila. After the World War II, serving in the Southern Command, he was instrumental in a rehabilitation project at Fort Sherman, Panama Canal Zone. In 1967 President Johnson named him Chairman of the Inter-American Defense Board. He retired from Army service to Hawaii in 1970.
