Scholes, Arthur G. 1874-1953

Arthur G. Scholes was born April 26, 1874 in Three Oaks, Michigan. He moved to Townsend (Mont.) in 1904 where he started the Broadwater Creamery. In 1913, Governor Samuel V. Stewart appointed Scholes the first state dairy commissioner, at which time he moved to Helena. He established the Helena Creamery in 1916 and operated it in partnership with John M. Schmidt until his retirement in 1928. Mr. Scholes married Anna F. Wilson on October 6, 1930. He died on August 13, 1953 in Helena.

Arthur G. Scholes established the Helena Creamery in 1916 and operated it with his partner John M. Schmidt until his retirement in 1928. Scholes and Schmidt sold the creamery to L.L. Wilson, R.L. Hillis, and John G. Brown who incorporated the business in 1929 as the Helena Creamery Company. Montana Secretary of State Jim Waltermire declared the corporation dissolved in 1982.
