Linde, Gunnel, 1924-....

Gunnel Linde was born October 14, 1924, in Stockholm, Sweden. As a child she wrote books for her teddy bears, her cousins, and for herself. She attended Anders Beckmans Reklamskola in Stockholm from 1943-1944, and Stockholms Kontskola in 1953. She began her career as a journalist in 1945. She was a producer of radio programs for children from1957-63, and television programs for children beginning in 1964. Her writings began to be published starting in 1958. Her awards and honors include Diploma of Merit (as runner-up) for the International Hans Christian Andersen Award in 1964 for Till aventys i Skorstensgrand, and the Nils Holgersson Award in 1965 for The White Stone . The White Stone was also chosen by the American Library Association as one of the notable children's books of 1966. In addition to the English translations, some of Ms. Linde's works have been published in Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, German, Japanese, Dutch, and Polish.
