Alfred Edward Housman, 1859-1936
Housman was born on 26 March 1859 and educated at Bromsgrove School and St John's College Oxford (MA). He was a Higher Division Clerk in HM Patent Office from 1882 to 1892. He then became Professor of Latin at University College London, 1892-1911. In 1911 he was appointed Professor of Latin at Cambridge University and Fellow of Trinity College Cambridge. Housman's publications include 'A Shropshire Lad' 1892, and many books of poetry. He also submitted many papers to the 'Journal of Philology', 'Classical Review', and 'Classical Quarterly'. He died 30 April 1936.
