Bridgetown, Nova Scotia, educated Trinity College, University of Toronto; taught at University of Chicago, 1899-1913; negotiated trade treaties between Canada and Australia; traveled extensively and lectured throughout the United States and Canada; president of the New York Public Lecture Association.
William Orton Tewson, 1877-1947, b. Surrey, England; joined New York Times in 1907 and in charge of Hearst newspapers in New York, 1912-1916; became editor of Literary Review of New York Evening Post; wrote many important writers asking for their vote on "the most beautiful line of poetry."
