Cowles, Florence Ashmore, b. 1846.

Florence Ashmore was born in New Orleans, La. in 1846. She married Capt. William Cowles circa 1866. Cowles was a graduate of Randolph-Macon College and served as a captain in the Confederate army during the Civil War. When this volume was kept the couple resided with Will's parents in Petersburg, Va., probably on a farm. Their first child, Will, Jr., was born in 1867.
