Screven, Richard Bedon, 1808-1851.

Richard Bedon Screven (1808-1851) graduated from the West Point Military Academy in 1828 and joined the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant in the 2nd Infantry. He served in various other infantry regiments in Florida, the Cherokee Nation, and Canada. During the Mexican-American War, Screven was promoted to Colonel. During his service in the Cherokee Nation he was selected to take charge of the removal of the Cherokee Indians to the Territories. After the war with Mexico he was in the recruiting service. He was on his way to join his regiment in Texas when he died in New Orleans. He married Louise Pintard Davidson (1814-1889).
