United States Food Administration. Iowa Division.

The United States Food Administration Iowa Division was established in July 1917 with the appointment of J.F. Deems as state administrator by Hebert Hoover, the head of the USFA. The Iowa division was headquartered in Burlington, in rooms donated by the Iowa State Savings Bank of Burlington. After American entry into the World War, the USFA was created to administer the distribution and consumption of food; and control the import, export, purchase, storage and all matters associated with the food supply. The Iowa division created a statewide network of officials and volunteers to carry out mandates from Washington, D.C. and to collect information and solve Iowa problems for the national office.
