Wells, John, 1870-1920.
Salvation Army Officer. John Wells was born in Norfolk, Great Britain, in 1870. He sailed on the 'Quetta' from Gravesend to Townsville, Queensland in 1889, and became committed to the Salvation Army in 1891. Graduating as a Captain in the Salvation Army in 1892, he preached at towns and cities across Victoria before being posted to Tasmania in 1897, where he met and married Betsy Chester, an ensign in the Salvation Army.
