Fair, James Graham, 1831-1894
Fair was living in Chicago, Ill. when the news of the Calif. gold discovery reached that city. He immediately made plans to terminate his affairs and leave for Calif. His knowledge of placer and quartz mining made him a well-to-do mine and mill owner. In association with Flood, Mackay, and O'Brien, he became a developer of the silver deposits known as the Comstock Lode. Fair served in the U.S. Senate from 1881 to 1887.
