First Presbyterian Church (Houston, Tex.)

First Presbyterian Church is one of the oldest churches in Houston. It was organized on Easter Sunday, March 31, 1839. The church has been located at several locations; currently, it is at 5300 Main Street. Prior to this, it was located in downtown Houston. Since its founding, First Presbyterian Church has been through its share of hardships as well as prosperous times. Twice, fire has destroyed its buildings. The church has had financial difficulties as well. Throughout its history, First Presbyterian Church has been one of Houston's leading institutions. Its records shed light on various aspects of Houston history, going back almost to the city's founding.
