Wedemeyer (b.1897 d.1989) graduated United States Military Academy (1919); served in the 29th Infantry (1920-1922); the 31st Infantry, later 57th Infantry, Philippine Islands (1923-1925); 12th Infantry, (1925-1927); District of Washington (1927-1930); 15th Infantry, Tientsin, China (1931-1932); Intelligence Division, G-2 War Department General Staff (1936); 29th Infantry (1939); 94th Antitank Battalion (1940); Training Section, Office of the Chief of Infantry (1940-1941); Plans Division, General Staff, War Department (1941-1942); Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff, Operations Division (1942-1943); Deputy Chief of Staff, Southeast Asia Command (1943-1944); Commanding General, U.S. Army Forces, Chinese Theater of Operations, and Chief of Staff to Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek (1944-1946); commanding general, Second Army (1946-1947); Special Envoy of the President of the United States to China (1947); director, Plans and Operations Division, later, Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans and Combat Operations, General Staff, War Department, (1947-1949); commanding general, Sixth Army (1949-1951); and retired from military service (July 1951).
