Morgan, Joseph M.

Joseph Mulford Morgan (1899-1983) received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Brooklyn Polytechnical Institute in 1925. Following brief stints with a private engineering firm in the southeastern United States (1929-1932) and with the State of South Carolina (1933-1934), he became a senior engineer with the Federal Power Commission (1934-1943). During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army, first as a post engineer at various facilities in Florida (1943-1945) and then as assistant director of the Repairs and Utilities Division, North West District (1946). In the latter capacity he supervised repairs, maintenance, and new construction in Alaska and the Northwest Territories, Canada. Following his discharge from the army in October 1946, he joined the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. As chief of the bureau's Alaska Investigations Office (redesignated Alaska District Office in 1950), he was involved in planning and implementation of the Eklutna Project. He was subsequently involved in other electrical power generation projects in North and Central America, both as a government official and in private practice.
