Rieser, S.

Dr. S. Rieser was an attorney with offices in New York City and Zurich; he was possibly the father of Ferdinand Rieser, the husband of Werfel's sister Marianne. Fuchs-Robetin was the husband of Werfel's sister Hanna. Firth (referred to also as Fürth) was the recipient of a letter from Rieser, care of the Esspi Glove Coroporation in New York City; apparently he had been charged by Werfel's father, Rudolf Werfel, with business and legal matters pertaining to the family company, Werfel & Böhm, at the time that Werfel's parents fled from Prague. Spellman was at that time the Archbishop of New York, and had written a letter in support of the immigration proceedings of Hanna and Herbert Fuchs-Robetin.
