Michigan. State Board of Fish Commissioners

On April 19, 1873, the Michigan Legislature established the State Board of Fish Commissioners "to increase the product of the fisheries, and to make an appropriation therefor." The Board was incorporated on March 9, 1882 and was entrusted with the supervision of the fishing interests and the enforcement of the laws for the protection of fish and fisheries of the state. It continued to operate under Act 63, MPA 1885 which repealed former acts, defined duties, powers, and method of expending funds, until the creation of the Department of Conservation in 1921, which assumed the duties of the Board.
