Graves, Marion Coats, 1885-1962.

Marion Coats Graves was the first president of Sarah Lawrence College from 1926 to 1929. A graduate of Vassar College in 1907, Radcliffe College in 1912 with an A.M. and Columbia University's Teachers College in 1932, Graves was a noted educator. In particular, she is known for her experimental contributions to two-year college programs. Prior to her time at Sarah Lawrence College, she was Principal of Bradford Academy (later Bradford Junior College) in Massachusetts. Graves resigned as President of Sarah Lawrence after the first year the College was open to students.
